The Binos won 1-2 against Edinburgh City at Meadowbank in the first league game of the new season.

The hosts opened the scoring in the 67th minute through Connor Young, but the Binos came back and secured all three points thanks to a debut goal from Josh Kerr and a scintillating last-minute volley from Dale Carrick.

Alan Maybury made four changes from last week’s loss against Ross County. Ross McGeachie, Dale Carrick, Harrison Howe, and debutant Josh Kerr came in for Cammy McKinley, Aaron Weir, Harry Wright, and Dale Hilson.

City had the first chance of the game when Robbie Hamilton swung in a free kick from Albion’s right wing. The looping ball was sent into the mix but was tipped over the post by Derek Gaston.

Stirling responded immediately as Calum Crane ran down the right wing and passed the ball to Harley Ewen, who struck it towards goal, but it was palmed away by Mark Weir.

From the corner, the ball found its way to debutant Josh Kerr at the back post. He took his chance but fired it wide.

Ally Roy made a great run forward, nicking the ball off two retreating Edinburgh defenders. He attempted to chip Mark Weir, but Weir managed to get a fingertip to the ball and block the attempt.

Roy made another darting run not long after his last attempt. Receiving the ball on the left wing, he cut inside and ran along the edge of the box, dancing between defenders, but couldn’t get his shot away.

Superb link-up play between Callum Crane and Ally Roy led to a cross from Roy, but Dale Carrick couldn’t make contact to put the ball into the net.

Half-Time: 0-0

A quick bit of link-up play down Stirling’s right wing allowed Harley Ewen to pass the ball to Aaron Weir, but his shot went just over.

Edinburgh City had perhaps the best chance of the match to score the opening goal when a ball in from Robbie Hamilton was collected by a City attacker. However, he couldn’t control the ball as it bobbled between his legs, allowing Derek Gaston to collect it.

The hosts’ opening goal came in the 67th minute when Innes Lawson rocketed the ball into the back of the net from distance.

Ten minutes later, a pinpoint pass from Bailey Dall found Ally Roy inside the box. He hit the ball first time, but his attempt rattled off the left post.

Aaron Weir was the next player to attempt a shot at goal. A cross into the box by Calum Crane was headed away by the City defence, but Weir latched onto the ball and shot from just outside the box, sending it over the bar.

The Binos eventually got the equaliser in the 86th minute from a looping free kick by Ricky Waugh to Josh Kerr, who scored his debut goal by heading the ball into the far corner from an extremely tight angle.

A second for the Binos came almost a minute later as Ally Roy once again tested Mark Weir from close range.

An absolute cracker of a winning goal was scored in the last minute of the game by Dale Carrick. His tremendous volley from 30 yards nearly burst the net as it flew past Mark Weir, securing all three points for the Binos.

Full-Time: 1-2
