Report

Stirling Albion suffered a narrow 4-3 defeat to Edinburgh City at Meadowbank in the capital in the William Hill League Two.

The hosts wasted no time in opening the scoring in the 12th minute through Innes Lawson. However, just five minutes later, Josh Kerr put Albion back on level terms.

Just before the break, City regained the lead through Malik Zaid, who fired home from a tight angle.

James Graham put the Binos back on the front foot with a superb double just six minutes into the second half.

But goals from the Citizens’ Ouzy See and Innes Lawson ensured that the three points remained in the capital.

Alan Maybury named an unchanged starting XI from last week’s 3-0 win against Bonnyrigg Rose at Forthbank.

The game started positively for Albion as they created the first chance of the match. Callum Crane latched onto an Adam Brown knockdown, but his effort could only find the side netting.

Despite the strong start, it was the hosts who struck first in the 12th minute. Innes Lawson produced a curling effort from outside the box, which nestled into the bottom corner to put City in front.

Stirling responded in determined fashion and found an equaliser just five minutes later.

Adam Brown, who has been a consistent creative threat for the Binos this season, delivered a trademark corner that fell perfectly for Josh Kerr, who remained composed to fire past Mark Weir and bring Stirling level.

As the first half progressed, both teams had spells of possession, but it was Edinburgh who found a way to retake the lead four minutes before the break.

Malik Zaid fired a shot from a tight angle, which found its way past Derek Gaston, sending the hosts into the interval with the advantage.

Half-Time: Edinburgh City 2-1 Stirling Albion

Stirling Albion came out for the second half with real intent, and they were quickly rewarded.

Just three minutes after the restart, Adam Brown showed great awareness to pick out James Graham inside the box, and the young forward made no mistake, rifling home to bring the Binos level.

Momentum was now firmly with the Binos, and they capitalised in superb style in the 51st minute.

A perfectly weighted through ball from Ricky Waugh found Jack Harkness, who showed great composure to roll the ball back into the path of James Graham. The forward applied the finishing touch, netting his second of the afternoon to put Stirling into the lead.

The end-to-end nature of the contest continued, and City responded in the 63rd minute.

Ouzy See broke through the Stirling defence and managed to slip the ball past Derek Gaston to level the scoring once again.

Mark Weir produced a superb stop in the 80th minute to prevent Stirling from once again gaining the lead.

With five minutes to play, Tiwi Daramola remained a threat to the Albion defence, but Derek Gaston was alert to gather the shot and smother the attack.

Edinburgh City eventually found the winning goal, with Innes Lawson connecting sweetly with a volley inside the box, sending the ball into the net to put the hosts back in front.

The Binos had one final twist to deal with in stoppage time as Tiwi Daramola won a penalty for City. However, Derek Gaston stood firm to deny Innes Lawson from the spot.

Despite Stirling’s relentless attacking efforts, the final whistle blew, sealing a narrow defeat as Edinburgh City claimed all three points in the capital.
